#quicktake from a coral researcher

Gert Wörheide researches the effects of climate change on the oceans. International cooperation is part of the daily business there.

"Internationality is a matter of course in our work." For sure, because Gert Wörheide is dealing with a topic of global importance: together with teams from all over the world, he is researching the effects of climate change on the oceans. But because larger research trips to the tropics are not currently possible, he has simply brought the tropics to Munich.

"We operate large research aquariums in which we can study the effects of changing environmental influences on the skeletal formation of corals," the geobiologist explains. "Not only can we continue our research in times of a pandemic, but we can also save CO2 that would actually be emitted by flights."
